Iann Robinson wrote a photo-blog post on Dimebag Darrell (hats off to you Iann) and reminded me how much we all love this amazing man!I know “amazing” is not a powerful enough word,but FUCK! you get the idea.

As we all know,Dime-at the age of 38-was shot dead onstage while performing with Damageplan,on 8th December 2004.That was four long years ago,and yes-DIME wouldn’t have known but back then,somewhere in Sri Lanka,a teenager was getting his fingers cracked trying to play “Cemetry Gates” on acoustic guitar!It’s been at least five months since I wrote my first metal blog post(my writing sucked balls back then!),but it was only when I read Iann’s blog post did I realise “Fuck!I haven’t written a single “Dime Tribute” blog post!”So here goes.

It’s a very popular statement among metal heads,that DIME’s heart was twice as big as the State of Texas-the biggest State in the United States of America,the very State that gave birth to the “Cowboys From Hell”-yeah I know,I am not a poet and that’s not a very inspiring line but once again “FUCK!you get the idea”.Though I’ve never had the previllege of seeing Pantera live or seeing DIME,I know one thing,we all loved DIME for that very reason-his heart!

I still remember the first day I got my hands on a Pantera record.I was in my early teens and the cd I had borrowed from a friend was “Reinventing Hell” a “best-of” disc.I remember a line DIME had spoken which was in the booklet which  came with the disc.It read “The thing about us is that we always stayed on the ground level with the fans.We never rode above the fans I am a fuckin’ fan myself!….they’re us,we’re them”.I am sure this line appears on other places too,but that was the first time I had listened to Pantera and this line was one thing that hit me right where it feels best!And “Fuck you!” I say to all bands who forget and have forgotten the life-blood of all artistes-the fans!No matter how big you are,you know your not as big as Dime’s heart.Lame line I know,but again I say “FUCK!you get the idea.”

There are another few guys,people hardly talk of,but should be spoken of as far as tributes are concerned.

Nathan Bray,23 jumped onstage to give Dimebag CPR before he-Nathan-was shot in the chest.The guy had the balls to jump up onstage and give fucking CPR to Dimebag and how dare anyone not talk of him!Rest in Peace brother!

The other two include Erin Halk 29 and Damageplan security chief Jeff “Mayhem” Thompson 40.Rest in Peace!You are not forgotten.

Though I hated Phil Anselmo during the Pantera-break up days, now I have great respect for him-both as a musician and a amn with a kind heart.He has admitted his drug addictions many times in popular media, and I’ll tell you this there aren’t many people who can do this.Or let’s put it this way rather,there aren’t many people who can admit it and walk out all sobre after they’ve worked themselves to Phil Anselmo’s shoes.Honestly,Kurt Kobain killed himself but Phil had the balls to step up and go: “Look bitch,I did it,but not anymore!”.My point-the man went through enough shit and if you still hate him,you really suck.Especially after saying what he said to the Revolver magazine in 2005.He said “I Would Have Taken A Bullet For DIMEBAG”.Read here for more.

I know this whole post sounds very lame to be coming out of someone who’s never seen Pantera live,but I love Dime and I love Pantera and “FUCK!you get the idea”
