Of Metal and Transgender….

Ah, it’s not very often we metal bloggers get a chance to talk about something sensible, or what may seem sensible to the so-called cocktail party activists(nice term Nalaka!).Anyways, fuck you it all and let’s start talking about gender and metal!

Why transgender suddenly?Well,Dan Martinez of Cretin-the awesome grindcore threesome-is now officialy a “she” by the name of Marissa.According to Blabbermouth,The Decibel Magazine’s July issue will feature an interview with (then)Dan Martinez-about his decision to undergo surgery to become a woman.I don’t really think the desicion will have any effect on Cretin’s music at all-which if you didn’t know is a somewhat modernized rendition of the oldschool-esque sounds of Napalm Death and Carcass.(”Modernized” does not imply “commercialized”).Dan had been one of the best screamers of the industry and Marrisa will definetely unleash a much louder, more raw and harsh vocal as now her soul will exactly be where it should be-in a woman’s body.Just head on over to Cretin’s myspace bitches listen to the vocals. That’s what Dan sounded like and that’s exactly what Marissa would sound like-only a tad bit louder.

My point-I am not trying to lick a whole lot of ass here,I just don’t see how Dan’s decision to be Marissa would affect Cretin’s sound.Dan was one of the best screamers on Grindcore and so will Marissa be too. After seeing the likes of Angela Gossow take on extreme gutteral vocals for Arch Enemy,we can expect some good shit from Cretin in the future.Meanwhile all you hiphop pussies can drool over your favourite hiphop chick-Justin Timberlake.

  1. I don’t know if this is the appropriate time for a joke, but one pops into mind. Why does it seem most people who get sexy changes have a name like “Dan,” or “Don?”

  2. Err… Typo. “Sexy” should be “sex.” …and before I sound like a bigot, let her do what ever it takes to feel comfortable in her own skin.
